’Tis the Season - Fabulous Gift-Giving to Fulfill those Holiday Wish Lists

On your mark. Get set. Go!  The race is on!  With the weather becoming colder in most parts of the U.S., our thoughts quickly turn to the upcoming holidays.  We all face this time of year with the anticipation of family food favorites and holiday fun but also with a crumb of gift-giving dread.  We either have to come up with a list of gift ideas for everyone on our gift lists or we might have been fortunate to get a Wish List for each.  Either way, in the annual search for the perfect gift, we need to find those items in a relatively short time-frame without making ourselves totally crazy.

My advice:  There is nothing better than to settle down in a comfy chair, list in hand, and with a cup or glass of whatever our desired favorite beverage-of-the-moment and snack is and shop online. (For me, if I shop during the day, it's a cappuccino dry with a sprinkle of nutmeg along with an almond filled croissant.  If I evening shop, it's a nice glass of merlot with a tasty cheese & charcuterie tray. We all have our "go-to" favorites, don't we?)  With some clicks of a mouse or use of a touchpad, we cruise the appropriate websites, locate the gifts on our list, enter in and pay for our orders and have them delivered in just a few days right to our doorstep. How easy is that?!

No spending precious time driving in cold weather going mall to mall burning up expensive gas, fighting for parking spaces once we get there, trudging from store to store elbow deep with other shoppers, toting all the awkward and/or heavy packages back to our cars and heading home generally so exhausted we either decide to stop off somewhere for a quick bite or we pick up fast food on our way home.

These beautiful tea light holders are handcrafted in the Philippines using the finest of pearl oyster capiz shells. The handcrafted process:  Single capiz shells are extracted by hand and individually placed in the handcrafted metal frame of the Lotus Flower by craftsmen who then polish, paint and lacquer each individual piece until it glows with color and vibrancy. Fragrance Notes

 

Perfume or Parfum is described in a musical metaphor as having three sets of notes, making the harmonious scent accord. The notes unfold over time, with the immediate impression of the top note leading to the deeper middle notes, and the base notes gradually appearing as the final stage. These notes are created carefully with knowledge of the evaporation process of the perfume.

 

Top notes: The scents that are perceived immediately on application of a perfume. Top notes consist of small, light molecules that evaporate quickly. They form a person's initial impression of a perfume and thus are very important in the selling of a perfume. Also called the head notes.

Middle notes: The scent of a perfume that emerges just prior to when the top notes dissipate. The middle note compounds form the "heart" or main body of a perfume and act to mask the often unpleasant initial impression of base notes, which become more pleasant with time. They are also called the heart notes.

Base notes: The scent of a perfume that appears close to the departure of the middle notes. The base and middle notes together are the main theme of a perfume. Base notes bring depth and solidity to a perfume. Compounds of this class of scents are typically rich and "deep" and are usually not perceived until 30 minutes after application.

 

The scents in the top and middle notes are influenced by the base notes, as well the scents of the base notes will be altered by the type of fragrance materials used as middle notes. Manufacturers of perfumes usually publish perfume notes and typically they present it as fragrance pyramid or wheel, with the components listed in imaginative and abstract terms.

 

Fragrance Notes Pyramid or Wheel consist of Floral Notes, Oriental Notes, Fresh Notes and Woody Notes.

 

 

Which to Choose

Eau de Parfum vs. Eau de Toilette

 

Know the difference between an eau de parfum and eau de toilette. The eau de toilette is lighter and has less staying power which makes it ideal for warmer climates or the summer time. Eau de toilettes allow you to easily distinguish their notes. It’s almost as if they’re telling a story. 

 

 

The eau de parfums which are slightly more concentrated will consequently last longer. Definitely a little more expensive but always worth the price because of their staying power. They can be worn year-round but just beware of  warm climates because heat has the ability to intensify a fragrance and you don't want to have your fragrance overpower you.
